PLEASE NOTE: Please follow all current federal, state, and local regulations/orders for social distancing and staying safe. We all should be staying home as much as possible. The rules vary from state to state and city to city, so research what guidelines apply to you.

This post is directed toward folks who don’t live with their mothers. For fun ways to celebrate Mother’s Day at home, click here.

To be totally honest, it makes me sad to have to write this.

Every holiday feels tough right now due to this pandemic because we’d all love to celebrate as normal, but we can’t.

We’d all love to be spoiling our mothers and mother figures in person.

However, that may not be possible right now.

So while things aren’t ideal right now for celebrating Mother’s Day, might as well make the best of it and do what we can to make our mothers feel loved, right?

1. Do a drive by Mother’s Day parade.

Draw up some signs and banners with sweet messages for your mother (this will be especially fun if you have kids!") and do a drive-by party to wish her Happy Mother’s Day.

2. Send her favorite flowers or a gift to her home.

What mom doesn’t appreciate flowers and a thoughtful gift? Don’t forget the card!

3. Do a car coffee date.

My mom and I do this occasionally and she calls it “cop coffee,” LOL! (You know, how cops supposedly congregate in their cars with their coffee and donuts? Anyway.)

We just follow each other through a coffee shop drive thru in our separate cars, find a pretty place to park, and chat through our car windows. It’s a fun way to get some quality time in while at a safe distance!

Have your mom follow you through the drive thru and buy her coffee and maybe even a pastry. It’s a great way to make her feel special (and you get bonus points for supporting a local coffee shop).

4. Drop off her favorite meal, dessert, and beverage on her doorstep.

She’ll certainly be so grateful if you surprise her with her favorite meal.

5. Have a party together over video chat.

Enjoy a meal, coffee, glass of wine— whatever your mom would enjoy—over video chat. If your mom loves games, the Houseparty app offers several fun virtual games you can play together. If you sent your mom a gift and a card, have her open it during your virtual celebration.

6. Put together a sweet care package with her favorite things.

Does your mom love to be pampered? Put together a basket with lotions, nail polish, face masks, etc. just for her!

Maybe she’s a gardener? Perhaps she could use some new gardening gloves, some seed packets, and a cute watering can.

Does she have a sweet tooth? Put a mix of her favorite cookies, candies, chocolates, and such in the basket. (And of course, make sure everything in the basket is sanitized.)

A personalized gift basket full of her favorite things is a thoughtful way to let her know how much she means to you.
